Dragon Portrait Series #3: Drakesen The Lost King

Here is my 3rd dragon in the series! I like the look of Drakesen more than the others so far. I think it's because I gave him a classical dragon like appearence and I like how his head is shaped better. I just hope he appeals to all my watchers though :)

EDIT: I altered the contrast so you could look at him better.

Very nice! The details are great and so is the shading :3

^^ thank you love! I'm glad someone likes the shading, though I was thinking about going back over it more, and make the dragon pop out

This one is my favorite too :) I haven't been paying much attention to DA lately but this caught my eye yesterday and I was scrolling for it thinking you did something with it! :S I like the face and the eyes... I'm not sure why. I think the eyes just have something different behind them... Something less usual ;)

Well, I dunno if too many people read my new journal but I've been very ticked off with my bus driver.

It's been ok though, I still got a lot to update soon and I got a lot of projects I'm working on school wise and on my free time.

What about you? How has your poems come along?

=D As has been said - you gave him a wonderful expression. I really like how you were able to give him an expression and also, maintain the realism (of a dragon? :O_o:) But what I mean is that sometimes giving an animal a humanistic expression can make them look a little too cartoony, but here, you achieve the expression and yet, he also still looks realistically reptilian.

I love the structure of his head and neck. He seems so solid! AND I JUST CAN'T GET OVER HIM! HE'S AWESOME! *huggles dragon*
ALSO, I gotta say I love your cross-hatching skills/shading skills and how you vary it from surface to surface (ex. scale shading is different from horn shading, etc.)

Wonderful work, mon ami! Keep it up! POWAH TO THE DRAGONS! :w00t:

I'm glad that he looks real to you. I feared the same thing actually, I thought if I gave him that kind of expression he wouldn't be believeable or you wouldn't even think twice if he was real or not. So I am glad someone told me XD

And thank you! I like how he turned out as well cause he looks more, hmm I dunno serpintine?? than the other dragons.

 I'm very glad to know that you also like how I used shading and cross hatching in this, it's actually a pretty fun method and I think if you have it both together it creates semi-realisim in pictures. Not just of dragons but anything else you try it with.

You did a really great job on him! I remember doing cross-hatching in art class. I really should take a page from the book of J-Rex and give it a shot on some pictures.
